How does continuous asphalt mix plants work?
Continuous asphalt mix plants work by continuously feeding aggregates (such as gravel, sand, and stone) into a rotating drum where they are mixed with bitumen to produce hot asphalt mix.
1. Aggregate Feeding: Cold aggregate materials are fed into the drum through a feeder system. These materials typically include different sizes of aggregates to achieve the desired asphalt mix.
2. Drying and Heating: As the aggregates move through the drum, they are dried and heated by a burner system. The burner heats the drum, and the hot gases produced by combustion pass through the drum, heating the aggregates.
3. Mixing: At a certain point in the drum, bitumen is injected into the mix, where it coats the heated aggregates. The continuous rotation of the drum ensures thorough mixing of the aggregates and bitumen, creating a uniform asphalt mix.
4. Storage and Discharge: Once the mixing process is complete, the hot asphalt mix is discharged from the drum into trucks or storage silos for transportation or immediate use in paving applications.
